Duct Tape and Swearing

This is where perfection comes to die.  Forget the glossy magazine spreads of pristine boats.  This is the raw and unfiltered life of boat ownership.  Mystery Leaks, electrical puzzles, what is that weird sound and how are the mosquitoes still getting in moments.  Finally the joy of figuring it out and fixing it with a hammer and a prayer.

I'm definitely not an expert in any part of the boat's systems.  I'm just a determined retiree with a toolbox, duct tape and a willingness to try things that might end in a couple of phone calls and a trip to the hardware store.  Here you'll find my triumphs, my facepalm-worthy moments and all the messy steps in between.  If you've ever looked at a boat project and thought, "I have no idea what I'm doing," then you're my people.  Pull up a crate—let's get together and figure it out together.

Hello, I'm Dianne MacGillivray.  I'm a novice sailor finally facing down fear, depression, and chronic pain; one sail at a time.  I bought a boat named Gypsy Wind to trade in my "hyperventilating lump of mush" era for one filled with freedom, duct tape, and showing up for myself (and others) along the way.
